COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION

Dedicated to rebuilding, promoting and supporting positive and sustainable growth for the communities we serve.

The 28th Legislative District CDC is in the process of rehabilitating and converting a closed former minimum security prison into a Community Resource and Enterprise Center to enhance economic opportunity, job creation, and community revitalization for a low income neighborhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This community revitalization project is planned in two phases. Phase I centers on the rehabilitation of the former prison. Phase II focuses on the development of affordable housing on the majority of the five acre site.

The Resource and Enterprise Center will offer the following opportunities:
• A certified culinary arts entrepreneur program for residents seeking to start their own catering or restaurant business
• A comprehensive computer learning resource center that will serve as a learning and tutorial resource for school age youth, adults wishing to improve basic education and workplace skills, and residents who want to learn basic computer literacy skills
• A community child care center for parents participating in Center activities or other residents who need convenient and affordable childcare. The childcare center will also provide job opportunities for residents as well as a learning laboratory for residents interested in establishing their own day care business.
• A multi-purpose room to be used for neighborhood meetings, community activities and cultural enrichment programming in the creative arts, music, dance and other programs designed to enhance overall self-esteem and self-worth.
